How Much Is My Junk Car Worth in Michigan? (2026 Numbers)

February 18, 2026 · 6 min read · Acme Junk Car Buyers

Every week someone asks us for a single number: what's a junk car worth? The honest answer is that two identical-looking cars can be $600 apart, and the reason has almost nothing to do with how the car looks. It comes down to weight and parts demand.

What actually determines a junk car's value?

Scrap weight is the floor. A 2,700-pound compact simply contains less steel than a 5,600-pound SUV, and shredded-scrap pricing is paid by the ton. Above that floor sits parts demand: if we can resell your transmission, doors, seats, and wheels through our Pontiac parts store, we can pay more than a crusher ever would.

Vehicle typeTypical rangeWhy
Compact car$250 – $900Light weight, moderate part demand
Midsize sedan$300 – $1,200Higher volume means steady part turnover
Full-size sedan$350 – $1,400More weight, more interior value
Crossover / SUV$400 – $2,800AWD parts in high demand in snow country
Minivan$350 – $2,200Doors and seats sell constantly
Pickup truck$500 – $3,000Heaviest plus strongest local parts market

Does it matter if the car runs?

It matters, but less than most sellers assume. A running car lets us verify the engine and possibly resell it as a complete unit, which is worth a premium. But a dead engine only removes one line item — the transmission, body panels, glass, wheels, and electronics still carry value.

How do I avoid getting underpaid?

  • Don't strip parts off the car first. Every part you remove comes off the offer.
  • Get the title if you can. A Secretary of State duplicate is cheap and usually raises the offer by more than the fee.
  • Ask whether the buyer is the yard or a broker. Brokers keep a cut of your money.
  • Confirm towing is free and not deducted at pickup.
  • Get the offer in writing or by text before the truck shows up.

We're the yard, not the middleman. Acme Auto Parts has bought and parted out vehicles in Pontiac since 1948, and our own tow trucks handle every pickup.
